The Park:  Reed Bingham State Park is conveniently located off of I-75 in south/central Georgia, and offers spacious, full hook-up campsites in a pecan tree grove interspersed with tall pines. There are many picnic and group shelters with grills (some enclosed) throughout the park, a 375-acre lake for fishing and water sports with a drive-up dock near the office, several miles of hiking trails, miniature golf, a volleyball net, a playground, an outdoor “gym,” a pioneer camping area, and more. We loved the park, and the staff were exceptionally friendly.

We encountered one local visitor over by the lake who had their dog off leash (and not under voice control) during our stay; aside from that, everyone seemed to keep their dogs on leash or tethered at the campsite. Since one of our dogs can be reactive on a selective basis, we always appreciate when other campers keep their dogs leashed … thank you!

Getting Around: The park is walkable end to end, along a paved road with tall pines on either side. We were in the park for a prescribed burn, and it was fascinating (and quite eerie) to be walking within feet of the burning underbrush. To our surprise, before the end of our stay we observed that Mother Nature was already reclaiming her territory, and new growth was happening quite quickly on the previously charred ground.

Hiking:  Hiking trails are a combination of soil (many covered in leaves or pine needles) and boardwalk. The boardwalks were undergoing repair during a portion of our visit. There was a slight grade to some trails, but most are relatively flat. After heavy rains, some trails could provide challenges in terms of puddles, but we made excellent use of the hiking trails before several were closed temporarily for boardwalk repairs.

Camping Facilities: Our campsite was #7 on Loop 1. It was spacious, nearly level, the hook-ups were well placed, and there was vegetation in the front of our patio area for privacy. We did have some water drainage issues in our site after heavy rains, but it generally cleared up with a day or two of sunshine. While all the sites are spacious, there is not a lot of vegetation between sites; however, most have enough distance between them that you don’t feel like you’re in your neighbor’s living room. Sites 29, 30, 31, 33 and 35 were exceptionally lovely, with views of the tall pines and saw palmettos and easy access to the Gopher Tortoise Trail. Site 14 was also quite nice; it faced an open, grassy area surrounded by tall trees. We found that the campers were rather transient during our stay, which surprised us considering how spacious the full hook-up sites were and all that the park offers in terms of recreation and hiking trails. Our volunteer Campground Hosts and the occasional guest who stayed longer than a night or two were all very friendly! Overall, the campground was very quiet and restful; however, there were several days when people on neighboring properties were firing rifles (presumably target practice) throughout the day. The noise disrupted the peaceful ambiance and bothered some of the dogs in residence (thankfully, not ours).

Loop 2 Bath House
Loop 2 Bath House

The bath house facilities (including laundry rooms) were immaculate throughout our 14-day stay. The bath houses offer traditional men’s and women’s rooms with showers and toilets, as well as two private unisex bathroom/shower facilities at each bath house. Both traditional and unisex bathrooms were accessible for persons with disabilities. Water pressure was decent, and there was plenty of hot water and room to maneuver in the showers.

The laundry rooms at each bath house had one washer and one dryer each, although one of the washers was not working during our stay. Machines were $1 each to operate (quarters only), and individual quarters could be added to the dryer to extend your time.

Dining Nearby:  We dined out at the Catfish Grille just outside the park. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent. It’s a cute place with good food, but we were not impressed with the portion sizes on the basket meals or the loaded baked potatoes, which included a bit of shredded cheese and a teaspoon or so of imitation bacon bits. My husband enjoyed the rest of his dinner, which included cole slaw, grilled shrimp, and add-on side of catfish. I recommend spending an extra few bucks to upsize from a basket to a dinner portion. A fellow camper told us that their All-You-Can-Eat crab leg special on Thursday Night was excellent (priced reasonably at $40 per person in March 2025).

OUR RATING & SUMMARY: 4.5 stars

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ +1/2 ⭐️’s

We really enjoyed our two weeks at Reed Bingham, and we give the campground 4-1/2 stars. The park offers lots of open space combined with large campsites under mature pecan trees and tall pines. Campers, hosts and staff were very friendly. The campground was quiet and restful, except for occasional gunfire (target practice, presumably) from neighboring properties. There were plenty of trails to walk our pups, as well as paved roads for when the weather muddied the trails. Sunsets over the lake were lovely, and there was lots of do-it-yourself recreational opportunities. The bath houses were spotless and  modern, and there was plenty of hot water, good water pressure and ample room to maneuver. All facilities seemed to be in good repair throughout the park, with the exception of the boardwalks which were closed for maintenance during the second part of our stay. Staff seem to take pride in their park, and it shows. We look forward to coming back to Reed Bingham State Park in the future!

We made some great memories at Reed Bingham State Park! Here are some of our favorites:

ABOUT US: We are snowbirds who escape our Southeastern Pennsylvania’s chilly winters in our Class A Winnebago Vista 31BE motorhome with our two pups, Bandit & Oakley, for 4 to 6 months at a time. Our pups love the outdoors, but don’t always love each other, so we spend most of our time in the campground with them. For that reason, and because they generally suit our $40/night budget, we favor state and national parks with plenty of outdoor space to explore and keep the pups sufficiently tuckered. Our campground reviews are honest and independent, but they are based on the way we experience a campground as active snowbirds. We look for lots of outdoor exploration opportunities at a campground, because we like to spend as much time in nature as possible. We also don’t currently tow a vehicle, so this skews our rating toward what is offered in the campground itself and not in the surrounding area. Everyone experiences a campground in a different way, of course.
